Conditions we treat

The same symptom can come from a clot, a narrowed artery, a small bleed, or something not vascular at all. Telling those apart is the whole job. Hover any condition to read more.

Stroke & TIA

The conditions that define vascular neurology — and the ones where the difference between a general assessment and a specialist one is largest.

Ischemic stroke

A clot blocks an artery supplying the brain. Treatment is urgent, and the work afterwards is finding the source so it does not happen twice.

Hemorrhagic stroke

Bleeding into or around the brain, from a ruptured vessel, aneurysm or malformation. Management is a neurocritical-care problem as much as a neurological one.

TIA (mini-stroke)

Symptoms that resolve on their own — and the single clearest warning the body gives before a major stroke. A TIA is an emergency assessment, not a reassurance.

Post-stroke recovery

Spasticity, fatigue, mood, cognition and the medication regimen, reviewed together rather than in separate appointments.

Aneurysm & Vascular Malformation

Structural problems in the vessels themselves — often found incidentally, and often over-treated or under-treated because the risk was never properly explained.

Brain aneurysm

A weak, ballooned segment of artery. Whether it needs treating depends on size, shape, location and the patient — a conversation, not a formula.

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)

An abnormal tangle connecting arteries directly to veins, which can bleed or cause seizures.

Vascular malformation embolization

Minimally invasive treatment delivered through the vessels rather than through open surgery, where that is the better option.

Carotid & Intracranial Artery Disease

Narrowing of the arteries that feed the brain — the most treatable cause of stroke, and the most commonly missed.

Carotid artery disease

Plaque narrowing the main artery in the neck. Assessed with ultrasound, CTA or MRA, and managed medically or with stenting depending on the degree and symptoms.

Intracranial stenosis

Narrowing inside the skull, where the management evidence is different from the neck and the details matter a great deal.

Vascular cognitive decline

Memory and thinking change driven by small-vessel disease rather than Alzheimer's — a different diagnosis with different treatment.

General Neurology

Conditions seen alongside the neurovascular practice, assessed with the same insistence on finding the cause.

Headache & migraine

Including the question every patient with a severe new headache deserves to have answered properly: is this vascular?

Seizure disorders

Including seizures that follow a stroke or a hemorrhage, where cause and treatment are linked.

Neuropathy

Numbness, burning and weakness in the limbs — diabetic, compressive, inflammatory or otherwise.

Memory & cognitive concerns

Assessment that separates vascular contributions from neurodegenerative ones, because the plans that follow are not the same.

Know the signs

BE FAST — the warning signs of a stroke

Stroke treatment is measured in minutes. Recognising it early is the single most useful thing a family member can do — the sooner treatment begins, the more brain is saved.

Balance

Sudden loss of balance or coordination

Eyes

Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes

Face

One side of the face droops when smiling

Arms

One arm drifts down when both are raised

Speech

Speech is slurred, strange or hard to find

Time

Note the time and call 911 immediately
