About Dr. Nishant Ranawat, MD

Biography

Dr. Nishant Singh Ranawat is a board-certified neurologist and neuro-interventional specialist with advanced expertise in vascular neurology, stroke care and minimally invasive treatment of complex cerebrovascular conditions. He treats patients with stroke, brain aneurysms, carotid artery disease, vascular malformations and other disorders affecting the blood vessels of the brain and nervous system.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, a Diplomate in Vascular Neurology (ABPN) and a Diplomate in Interventional Neurology of the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, and holds a California fluoroscopy supervision and training licentiate. He is licensed across more than a dozen states, including Texas, New York, California, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona and Virginia.

Dr. Ranawat earned his MBBS from Sawai Man Singh Medical College, University of Rajasthan, trained in internal and emergency medicine in the United Kingdom and New York/New Jersey, then completed neurology residency at University Hospitals/Case Medical Center in Cleveland. He went on to fellowships in vascular neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Stroke Institute, vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, and endovascular surgical neuroradiology at UHS-SUNY Upstate Medical University.

He currently serves as Medical Director of Sunbelt Neurological Services in Spring, Texas, and as a consultant in neurocritical care, cerebrovascular and endovascular neurology at Mohawk Valley Health System-St. Luke's Medical Center and United Health Services-Wilson Medical Center in New York. Previously, as Medical Director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurology at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, he built the region's stroke and neuroendovascular program, which earned AHA Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Elite recognition and DNV Primary Plus (Thrombectomy Capable) Stroke Center certification. At Centra Lynchburg General Hospital he led the 12th US and first Virginian Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center to certification within a year.

His clinical work spans emergency stroke intervention, mechanical thrombectomy, aneurysm coiling and flow diversion, carotid and intracranial stenting, tumor and AVM embolization, neurocritical care and long-term stroke prevention. He has contributed to major stroke trials including IMS-III, SAMMPRIS, DEFUSE II, MISTIE-ICES, COSS and ACT-1, serves on the ABPN Test Development Committee and the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroimaging, and is a Senior Member of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.

Dr. Ranawat speaks English, Hindi, Urdu and Rajasthani, enabling him to serve patients and families from a wide range of backgrounds.
